The Intermountain Section AWWA’s Annual Conference is being held on October 11th to 13th in Sun Valley, ID.  The Section’s Conference Committee has put together a great program filled with exceptional technical sessions, interesting general sessions, unique special events, a fun guest program, and, of course, exhibitor breaks with prize drawings.

After you have registered you can do the following:


1.       Identify where you would like to volunteer

2.       Review the Schedule and Program.  You can login from your computer or device and set up your own schedule

3.       Download the Mobile App to your device

4.       Sign up for Special Events by simply RSVPing to the Event.  You can register for any event by clicking in the button " Click here to add to My Sched".

5.       Sign-up and pay for Thursday afternoon activities by going to the links provided

a.       Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament

b.       Group Hike

c.        Fly Fishing 101/ Casting Class

6.       Find out the details of the Guest Program – A $200.00 value for only $150.00 includes all meals and breaks, Lifestyles Program activities, and Participation in the Prize Drawings.

1.     Volunteer Opportunities

The 2017 Annual Conference has many opportunities for the attendees to volunteer their time and talents.  For the conference to be a success we need your help!  Would you consider volunteering for one or more of the opportunities below?  Please feel free to sign up for as many opportunities as you would like.  Someone will contact you no later than a week before the conference to coordinate with you on volunteering.

2.     Schedule & Program

The full schedule and program for the Annual Conference is posted on our website.  Go for all of the details.  The schedule has a gorgeous and intuitive design along with a print-ready guide. Other features include:


·         Speakers, Sponsors and Exhibitors and all attendees can post their own bios and other up-to-date details so that it is easy to connect with others at the conference

·         Attendees can create a personal agenda and link it to their personal calendars.

·         The schedule is color coded with different colors for technical breakout sessions, special events, general sessions, guest program and exhibitor breaks.

·         Links within each session take you directly to the presenters, moderators, or to sites where you can buy tickets if necessary.

·         Some of the sessions are limited in size.  You can RSVP directly to any session simply by clicking the button "Click here to add to My Sched."

·         You can register for one of our Thursday activities simply through your RSVP for the activity.  You will be automatically registered for that activity.


 3.  Mobile App


Also, we have developed an App that will work on all of your handheld devises so that you can instantly access the app on your phone or other device.  While on your device simply click in the icon or go to link to download the app.  You can save the icon to you home screen. This will give you 24/7 access to all the latest information and you will be notified if any of your personally scheduled sessions have changed.

Wednesday, October 11th


8:00 am New Member & First Time Attendee Breakfast

This is a free breakfast for all New Members and First Time Attendees.

9:00 am  Opening General Session

Ray Quay, a Research Professional at the Decision Center for a Desert City, at Arizona State University will discuss Water Demand vs. Supply and their Codependent Influence on Water Planning for Communities


Deliver by 11:00 am  Water Taste Test - Bring Your Water for the Competition

If you are a utility then you should get excited about this friendly competition of who has the best tasting water.  Three winners will be selected:
•Best of the Best – Groundwater
•Best of the Best - Surfacewater / GWUDI
•Best of Show

The Best of Show entry will be eligible to participate in the Association Annual Conference (ACE18) held in June 2018 in Las Vegas.  Additionally, there will be a People's Choice Award that will be based on Conference Attendee's voting during the conference.  

12:30 pm  Lunch in the Exhibit Hall

Enjoy a sandwich and salads while visiting with the vendors in the Exhibit Hall.  Lunch is included for all full conference registered attendees. Additional Tickets can be purchased for $35.00.


Thursday, October 12th


7:30 am  Breakfast in the Exhibit Hall

Come enjoy a Bavarian Breakfast in the Exhibit Hall.  Breakfast is included for all full conference registered attendees and those in the guest program. Catch up with old friends and meet new colleagues in the Exhibit Hall. Check out the many new products and services available in the water industry.  Additional Tickets can be purchased for $35.00.

8:15  Midconference General Session

New this year is a General Session following the Exhibitor Breakfast.  Mike Carpenter with the Idaho National Laboratory will talk about INL's Water Security Test Beds and what they have learned about safeguarding the country’s water systems. This program is done in cooperation with the EPA


Friday, October 13th


8:00am Membership Celebration Breakfast


The Membership Celebration Breakfast event at the Annual Conference brings together all of our members to learn about the value of AWWA membership, celebrate membership anniversaries, enjoy regionally-recognized keynote speakers and network with friends and colleagues. Breakfast is included for all full conference registered attendees and those in the guest program.  Additional Tickets can be purchased for $40.00

11:30am  Closing General Session

Natalie Gochnour, Associate Dean David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah will discuss how Policy and Growth Variabilities can affect water planning.


12:15pm Awards and Closing Luncheon

Come celebrate our award winners at this luncheon to close the conference. Lunch is included for all full conference registered attendees and those in the guest program.  Additional Tickets can be purchased for $45.00


5.    Activities


Fly Fishing 101 - Casting Class

Thursday, October 12th
2:00 to 4:30 pm / Site TBD
Cost $25 - Includes lunch, water, guide & equipment rental

This class will introduce you to the equipment, how to properly rig and cast the fly rod, and how to tie basic fly fishing knots.  This class is the simplest way to get you started in this fun (and addictive) sport. All equipment provided.

We will meet at the registration desk at the Sun Valley Inn at 2:00 PM on Thursday October 12th to car pool to the activity site.


Group Hike

Thursday, October 12th
1:30 to 4:30 pm | Taylor Canyon Trail
Cost $20 - Includes lunch, water & drawstring backpack.

Join your fellow AWWA members and guests on this intermediate hike through Taylor Canyon, quite the hidden gem in the area.  Lower lying clusters of changing deciduous trees give way to a sweeping 180* panorama that includes Baldy and the Boulder Mountains.

We will meet at the registration desk at the Sun Valley Inn at 1:30 PM on Thursday October 12th to car pool to the trailhead. Wear suitable clothing and footwear for hiking. Lunch, water, and a small backpack will be provided.   The average high temperature in Sun Valley in October is about 57 degrees.  Click the link above for more detailed information and to register.


Golf “Fore” Scholarships – Scholarship Benefit Tournament

Help fund Scholarships for College Students and Operators while having a great golf experience! Proceeds go to fund Section Scholarships.  The Goal is to raise $5000 to fund three Scholarships. Even if you don’t golf please consider sponsoring a Hole or Prizes or making a donation.

6. Guest Program

The Guest Program is always a hit with those that you bring along to the conference.  We have a fun filled list of events (see the Lifestyles Program below).  Includes Lifestyles Program, All Conference Meals, Breaks and Prize Drawings all for $150 (a $200 Value).  Purchase Guest Program Tickets.

11:00 am -1:00 pm             *Brunch at Christina’s Restaurant in Ketchum.  Located in a charming, salmon-colored house on a small street in the world famous ski resort of Sun Valley, Idaho, Cristina's Restaurant is a special place where people gather to enjoy the company of friends and to taste the fresh, uncomplicated flavors of Cristina's Tuscan childhood. Your choice off of the lavish breakfast menu that features orange cinnamon French toast and Ham & Gruyere Omelets

Thursday, October 12th

7:30 am – 8:15 am              *Exhibitor Breakfast & Prize Drawing in the Exhibit Hall

8:30 am – 10:30 am            Meet at Registration Desk to travel to Historic Downtown Hailey. Tour Blaine County Historical Museum - visitors can explore the Wood River Valley’s pioneer past, research family histories, and view vignettes of mines, schools, ranches, famous literary personalities, period fashions, and political memorabilia. Each display shows aspects of the life that early inhabitants and pioneers experienced.

10:30 – 11:30 am                *Break time at Iconoclast Books & Café.  Enjoy the café’s featured locally-roasted Grace Organics coffee, local organic dairy, house-made chai, organic teas, smoothies, fresh baked goodies, and bagels. The Bookstore specialize in unique cards, gifts, candles, and jewelry and hosts the area's largest children's section--from baby gifts & board books to a phenomenal young adult selection, with everything in between.
