Weber Basin Water Conservancy District

As I come to the close of my tenure as AWWA Director for the Intermountain Section, I wanted to voice my appreciation to the Section membership for this opportunity. I have learned much from so many great people at the Association level. I have developed many friendships that I will hopefully never forget. I have really come to learn that the more you get involved within any organization, the more you yourself benefit from that service. I would encourage everyone to get more involved in AWWA and continue to make it an organization that we can all be proud of.

There have been some major changes in the federal government’s leadership lately, which will undoubtedly translate into some policy changes. We are hopeful that the Trump administration sees the need for some major funding of water and wastewater infrastructure funding as we all face the issue of aging infrastructure and population increases. AWWA continues to work with the administration on these issues and feels that this is the time to make changes. Water Quality regulation will also be at the forefront, as we go into UCMR(Unregulated Contaminate Monitoring Rule) IV. Remember to keep informed on any proposed regulations and make appropriate comments.

It has been a very enjoyable change to have a great winter and a good supply of water. Most of the reservoirs in the state will fill and the Great Salt Lake will see some much-needed water as well. With these good runoff years coming only every five or so years, we need to make these water supplies last as long as possible. Thus, the need for continued vigilance for conserving this precious resource. Regardless of the water year, the water conservation message must be continually stressed. There are no guarantees for next year’s supply.

Thank you all so much for all you do in helping to aid in the success of the Intermountain Section of AWWA. It does make a difference to so many.
