Membership Summit Report 2017
Lisa Anderson
Member Communications Coordinator
Staff, IMS-AWWA

Each year the Association holds a Membership Summit in Denver to help Sections plan their membership goals for the year. It is a wonderful experience hearing what is working (and not working) in other Sections across the world and how we can improve. This year’s focus was Engaging the Y-Generation. Our keynote speaker, Sarah Sladek, gave Section representatives some insight in the mind-set of the generation born post-1985 and how their minds work. This generation is the first generation born after the Industrial Age and the first generation in the Technology Age. They have lived in a world only where computers exist and they have different thought processes because of it. We, as Intermountain Section members, need to start thinking in a new direction how to attract and engage with these individuals who think out-of-the-box on a regular basis. Our Section’s Member Engagement Committee will be working hard this year to come up with some tools and resources to help our committees find and retain these members. Please let us know if you want to become more involved in the Section or if your committee has a need for more volunteers and we will help you in this effort.

Our Section was also given a monetary award based on our membership goals set last year that will be used in recognizing the members in our Section this year. Thank you all for your efforts to make this Section one of the best in AWWA!
