Water Week 2016 was a spectacular success thanks to everyone who helped out and volunteered this year.  The Division of Drinking Water’s fourth grade poster contest banquette is the kickoff event for Water Week each year.  This event is a great way to showcase the incredible artistic talents of fourth graders in Utah and their understanding of the importance of water and water conservation.  During the banquette the winners from each of the water basins attend a dinner with their families and the winner of the grand prize is announced and the winner and their teacher receive an oversized check to take back with them to their school.

Metropolitan Water Districts Open House had great attendance with a lot of faces we see each year who are eager to tour their local water treatment plant.  Each year individuals and families from the neighborhood, Scouts and other who have heard of the event and “just wanted to see what this place was”  show up to increase their water knowledge.  This year some kids even bragged it was such a fun event they look forward to each year and could probably do the tour themselves.

This year at the Sego Lily Garden in Sandy City we had a beautiful day for the garden fair.  Enjoying the first sunny Saturday we have had in years at the park were different organizations such as South Salt Lake City with their hydrology trailer, Wild Wonders had local and exotic animals for everyone to learn about and get to touch, butterfly education, tomato plant sales and the first 100 families who attended received a free water wise plant.

The Intermountain Section was also able to continue the Water Week Library program where we donate a book to all the libraries in Utah and Southeast Idaho.  This year the book donated was Watch Over Our Water by Lisa Bullard with illustrations by Xiao Xin.  We were also able to extend our Volunteer Library Program where members of the Intermountain Section visit their local library to drop off books donated, set up a display, participate in children reading time and help with a water activity.  The books donated for the Volunteer Library Program were Watch Over Our Water by Lisa Bullard with Illustrations by Xiao Xin and A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park.

The 2016 Water Week Photo Contest had 20 submissions this year and it was very hard to pick only 3 winners.  We awarded a First Place, Second Place and People Choice Awards for the 2016 Water Week Photo Contest.  Thanks again to everyone who helped out by participating, volunteering, planning and supporting Water Week this year it was an amazing Water Week and we are excited and getting ready for next year!
