On October 7, 2015, the AWWA Young Professional group sponsored a tour of the Utah Valley Water Treatment Plant. The tour was a joint AWWA/WEAU venture and we had about ten people attend. Having a relatively small group made it easy to get through the tour and see everything pretty quickly. Tyler Bird gave a presentation about the treatment plant upgrades that had just recently finished. These upgrades consisted primarily of pre-treatment facilities, including a new ozone building. Following the presentation, Dave Hardy led a tour of the facility so we could see the new improvements in action. We were able to walk through the entire plant and see the treatment process from influent to effluent. In one area we were literally able to see the treatment process, as the floc would visibly bind together and grow bigger as the water flowed through a series of basins, until ultimately settling out. It was impressive to see the treatment process happen right in front of our eyes! Overall it was a great event that provided a little peak into the water treatment process and a chance to meet and network with some new people. The YP group hopes to have many similar events in 2016 and we encourage all young professionals to attend!
