AWWA members with various expertise and experience have produced a series of voluntary water utility operation and management standards and guidebooks to provide utilities a cost effective method to assess and improve their operations. Utility personnel can take advantage of the decades of experience of these AWWA utility, engineering, and regulatory members through the use of standards and guidebooks, so you too can conduct self-assessments, evaluate utility operations, and identify areas for improvement. Congruity to the Utility Quality Management Standards provides evidence of utility staff’s knowledge and practice of optimizing management and operations, as well as keeping records of the practice. The Standards also offer utilities the ability to demonstrate continual improvement toward becoming a more favorable investment, reinforcing trustworthy reputations in the regulatory community, and increasing consumer satisfaction. The Standards contain proven effective practices that are in support of the various attributes of an effectively managed utility, and they can substantially assist any size utility and its supported community moving toward improved sustainability.
