Just Jump In with Both Feet

I was reflecting on the very successful annual Intermountain Section Conference (held in Sun Valley) that many had the opportunity to attend. The conference was successful, in large part, due to the volunteer efforts of so many talented Section members, who willingly share their time and talents. Volunteers are the “life blood” of the success of AWWA, and I have always greatly appreciated my many friends within our Section who are willing to give back to the water industry through their volunteer efforts. My experience as a volunteer in AWWA (like others) has always been that I get much more back than I give, and the friendships formed while serving together, have greatly benefitted my professional career and my personal life. Presently there are 19 committees within our Section that rely on (and are in need of) volunteers willing to help out. And did I mention, that now is a great time to volunteer, with current ongoing efforts taking place to improve and provide more meaningful service opportunities that can better meet the service interests of our Section members. Volunteering is easy, just express an interest to any of the Section leadership or committee chairs, and then “jump in with both feet”. Additionally, if you have aspirations to serve at the Association level, there over 160 technical committees looking for volunteers, and all you have to do is to fill out the online AWWA Volunteer Application, and soon you can become as busy as your time permits. To all those who are already serving in AWWA, I would like to express my appreciation, and to those who plan to  serve in the near future, I look forward to get to know you, to work with you, and to learn from you.
