Nicole Baser (Boyd) wrote on the Training and Education: Fluoride Safety Training 2014 wall: Here are some answers and questions that were asked during the training but were not able to be answered at the time. 1. What is the best way to dispose used SPADNS/SPADNS II Accuvac ampules? Refer to the attached MSDS. SPADNS must be disposed in an EPA waste Facility. SPADNS2 can be flushed with water. Rinse out the vials and dispose as normal trash. 2. If you spill SPADNS II on your fingers, how toxic is it? What should you do? Refer to the attached MSDS. Both reagents can cause burns in exposed to skin. Rinse in water for 15 minutes – refer to doctor if necessary. 3. If left at room temperature, how long can you wait before a test must be taken? We would recommend reading the sample within minutes of being at room temperature. We would recommend both the reagent and sample be at room temperature before analyzing. 4. If you have mixed the SPADNS II in the blank and the sample, and aren't able to read it immediately after the reaction time, how much time can pass to read it before it isn't valid? The sample blank will slowly drift. We have seen in lab where the blank was left for about 20-30 minutes and caused a slight drift. We would recommend reading within 5-10 minutes for best results.
